“Strain localization induced by closely spaced lamellae structure in a Mg alloy containing long period stacking ordered structure”

This study advances our fundamental understanding of deformation mechanisms in magnesium alloys and provides guidance for the design of rare-earth-containing Mg alloys.
Proud of this international collaboration and the insights it brings into the deformation behavior of complex Mg systems. This work is the result of a collaboration with my former UCSB colleague, Dr. Fulin Wang, now an assistant professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Together with our co-authors, we explore how nanoscale lamellae and LPSO structures in Mg alloys promote pronounced strain localization and constrain slip systems activation, with important implications for strength–ductility synergy.
